The Top Three Signs That It Is Time To Replace Your Siding

There are many different signs that your siding is nearing the end of its life and may need to be replaced. Unfortunately, many of these signs pertain to specific types of siding. For example, if you have wood siding that is nearing the end of its life, dry rot may be present, whereas if you have brick that is nearing the end of its life, the mortar may be cracking and chipping away. Fortunately, there are a few signs that it is time to replace your siding that are universal to most siding types. Here are three of those signs.

Your Siding Is Warping

One of the top signs that indicate that it is time to replace your siding is siding that is beginning to warp. Most people think that only wood can warp. But this is not true. Laminate, stucco, brick, and stone exteriors can all begin to warp as well. When siding is placed on your home, it is flat, level, and even. However, as the siding ages, it can begin to shift, either due to age or due to moisture damage. This shifting can cause the siding to look wavy and out of place, known as being warped.

Your Interior/Exterior Walls Show Signs of Water Damage

Another telltale sign that it may be time to replace your siding is water damage on the inside of your interior/exterior walls. The walls that serve as both an interior wall and an exterior wall are your interior/exterior walls. If your siding is damaged or not able to function, water can seep in through the siding, affecting the wall. You may see water spots or water stains on the wall, or you may even notice puddles forming at the base of the wall.

You Can See Obvious Damage to the Siding

Lastly, if you can see obvious signs of damage to the siding, it may be time to have the siding replaced. You may notice hail damage, large dents or dings, holes in the siding, or siding falling off or sliding out of place. In some cases, damage may be able to be repaired, depending on how extensive the damage is and the age of the siding. In other cases, all of the siding may need to be removed.

If the siding on your home is beginning to warp, you notice signs of water damage on the inside of your exterior/interior walls and/or you can see obvious signs of damage to the siding, it is time to call in siding services. The technicians can evaluate your siding and determine whether repairs are needed or whether all of your siding needs to be replaced. The longer you wait, the more extensive the damage can be, so contact a serviceperson as soon as you notice one or more of these signs.
